Honoring Perinatal Bereavement and Infant Loss

But not every journey ends the same way; if your baby is stillborn or if the challenges of medical issues become too strong for the little one to handle, your baby will become your little angel in heaven. In this moment of loss, words are silent. Yet, photography has the power to keep your baby with you forever. Save and cherish those moments you get to hold your baby so close to your heart. Neonatal loss and infant mortality are profound challenges for the family. As a professional photographer, I extend complimentary photography services to families navigating bereavement and infant loss. Knowing your baby is born sleeping or making the detrimental decision of disconnecting your baby from life support can be the most difficult and heart-wrenching decision nobody should be challenged to make. Whether facing the devastating loss of a stillbirth or confronting a life-threatening diagnosis, there are cherished memories to preserve. Your angel deserves to be remembered, and as a birth and NICU photographer, I am here to provide you with lifetime memories of those fleeting moments when you met your baby even if it is for a short time - but knowing someday you will meet again."

FAQ: Who are these sessions for?

These sessions are intended for families with babies born prematurely (before 36 weeks), stillborn babies, or babies with life-threatening conditions. Coordination should be directly arranged with the parents. While I'm permitted to accompany families as a certified birth doula, parents must approve the photography session at the NICU and notify the staff about scheduling.

FAQ: What will be captured during these sessions?

These sessions are considered documentary lifestyle sessions and will capture your family and your baby as they are, including cuddling, feeding, and medical equipment. I do not handle babies directly. While I may suggest ideas, babies will be handled by a parent or a nurse only.

FAQ: What is necessary to arrange for the NICU session?

Natural light is preferred for the best outcome of your session. Please ensure that the session is scheduled during the daytime to avoid using artificial light, such as video or flash, for premature babies. You're welcome to provide baby outfits, blankets, or hats, but this is not required.

FAQ: How long do sessions last and when can we expect our images?

Sessions typically last about 45 minutes to one hour; twins may take longer. It will take approximately three to four weeks to deliver your images, consisting of 20-50 high-resolution digital images in JPG format for download.

FAQ: Will our session and images be kept confidential?

These sessions are fully confidential unless you consent to share them on my website and social media to support babies and families. In that case, parents will be asked to sign a release form. However, no personal information such as names, dates of birth, or health conditions will be shared.

FAQ: Why are you offering NICU sessions free of charge?

As a birth doula and birth photographer, I dedicate my life to serving families during the birth process. However, these times can be more challenging for some families, particularly those experiencing a NICU stay or with a premature baby. I want to provide as much support as I can for those in need. When medical bills start to build up, NICU parents may prioritize other expenses over a photoshoot, potentially missing out on capturing precious moments of their little one's early days. As a birth photographer and doula, I understand the significance of these moments. Offering NICU sessions free of charge is my way of giving back and serving the community.

FAQ: What if we decide to do newborn photography when our baby graduates NICU?

I have been offering professional newborn photography services for 15 years now and provide a full-service experience for newborn babies. I can create beautiful memories for you when you bring your baby home or offer a fine art studio session located in Fairfax. Please visit my website to view my newborn portfolio at www.annaisaiko.com. Additionally, you will receive a $250 bonus that you can apply towards your professional FINE ART NEWBORN photography session.

Our mission is to forever save the moment of you meeting your baby no matter how challenging this time is. We provide complimentary photography services to NICU families during their baby's NICU stay. Our goal is that these photography services will give families hope for the future as well as help support them in their NICU journey."
